Shame Star Awarded For Second Time to Michael Jordan
We here at America Against Hollywood have awarded Michael Jordan this weeks Walk of Shame Award. His second in just a few months. Michael announced yesterday that he was going to donate $100,000,000.00 to organizations that would help ensure racial equality. Sounds amazing right? That’s a lot of zeros and for a great cause. Well the devil is in the details. Let me explain.
If you recall, we awarded the Walk of Shame Award to Michael back in early March. You can read more about why we awarded Michael this shame award here. Basically, Michael is in partnership with Nike who makes Air Jordan brand shoes. The shoes pull in $3.14 billion per year for Nike. Jordan makes roughly $145 million per year as a part of that relationship. Air Jordans have been around since 1984 so do the math, its a ton of money. All in all, Michael himself is worth over $2 Billion (yes you read that right) according to CelebrityNetWorth.com. We can safely assume it is much more if he is like all other celebrities, politicians and the 1 percent who offshore their money in safe havens that do not report how much is being held there. Now we here at AmericaAgainstHollywood.com do not want to fault Michael for making so much money. It is the American Dream. However, we awarded the Shame Star Award because he has blood on his hands. He purposely works with Nike to inflate the price of shoes that are cheaply made in China. Seems OK until you realize that a majority of those purchasing his shoes are lower income citizens and often resort to violent crimes to get them. His shoes are essentially harming people, including African Americans. Again, you can read more on our previous article.
So why did we award him a second time? Because he has been silent about black communities for years. He has not taken any action to end the violence his shoes cause within the communities and at the very least enticing lower income people to spend hard earned money on his high end shoes rather than pay bills or save for a rainy day. Now for the last two weeks, we have seen America burn with riots. He was finally forced to step up and donate money. Not because he wants to but more because he has done nothing for urban black communities and profited off their pain. Many Nike stores were looted during the riots showing that his shoes are still causing collateral damage to communities. Also, no good dead goes without a catch. This will increase sales to Nike and in turn increase profits to Michael. The communities he harms will rush to buy more shoes from them because they donated a small amount to their community.
OK get ready for the math. It might make your head swim but see the results at the end and you will be mad as hell also for this fraudulent donation scam.
So Michael has promised to donate $100 million to promote racial equality and social justice. But lets look at the details. He is not donating that all by himself. Most of the money is coming from Nike. We will omit Nike from our numbers though in an effort to show what a hypocrite Jordan is. Jordan will not even be paying half of the money being donated. As we mentioned, most will be coming from Nike, the rest will be coming from Jordan.
Additionally, the money will be spaced out over 10 years. So most of the money, $90 million, will still be in the hands of Nike and Jordan who will be able to collect interest on the money. Why not donate that money up front so the organizations can utilize all $100 million up front as well as earn the interest?
More importantly, for someone who earns $145 million per year, why not skip a your salary like Donald Trump and donate it to charity? Maybe he could even donate 2 years of salary or more? For someone who is worth over $2 billion, you think he could cough up more if he really believes in helping racial equality. Especially since he has earned most of his money off of the black community through sales of his shoes. Now Nike is just as much to blame. They made over $39.12 billion in just 2019 alone. See where we are going here? Couldn’t Michael have donated several hundred million and Nike donate $1 billion if they really believe in their cause?
You see, Michael and his family will never be able to spend $2 billion in his or their lifetimes. If he spent all 2 billion that he currently has, not including interest he is making, other endorsement deals and future Air Jordan sales revenue, he would need to spend $67 million dollars a year for the next 30 years. Currently at 57 years old and considering his good health, he is statistically not expected to live past another 30 years at most which would put his life expectancy at 87 years old. So that would be about $6 million per month, 180,000.00 per day that he would need to spend to deplete his $2 billion dollars. Don’t forget, that is just his current $2 billion net worth. He is expected to earn another $7.3 billion over the next 30 years which he might possibly live. However, it does not stop there. With his contracts, the money will keep flowing to his family long after his death as long as Nike uses the Jordan name in their branding.
So if Jordan splits the $10 million per year with Nike, that is $5 million out of his own pocket. We do know he is not splitting in half and it is much less and Nike is picking up the larger share, however but for the sake of argument we will say he is paying half. So if he earns $145 million per year divided by $5 million donation, that would be just 1/29th of his yearly salary roughly. For the average American earning $60,000.00 per year, 1/29th would be a donation of $2069.00 per year or $6 per day. A Starbucks coffee essentially.
Therefore for Michael who has been targeting inner city communities to earn his $2 billion dollar and growing fortune, it is safe to assume that he could certainly spend more than $6 per day (in relation to you and I). If he skipped just 2 years of his income, he could donate $300 million and not even touch his current $2 billion fortune. Nike could follow by donating per capita of their revenue as well and not touch their financial coffers. It seems like Michael could have donated all $100 million by himself if not much more. Therefore, although a good start on paying back the community he raped, we award him this weeks Walk of Shame Award for not giving more than a cup of coffee.
